Kidney function test

What this test is

Kidney function tests check how well your kidneys clean your blood. The main test is creatinine, plus a number called eGFR. Sometimes a urine test for albumin is added too. These are worth checking often if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease. That is because kidney disease can grow quietly, with no symptoms, until it is advanced. If you do not have those risk factors, you likely do not need kidney testing every year. A single mild abnormal result in a low-risk person is usually not meaningful. Chasing it can lead to more testing than it is worth.
