What this test is
Estradiol is a form of estrogen. This blood test helps in a few cases. It helps if your periods stop before age 45 for no clear reason. It also helps if you are under 40 and your periods stop. This can point to early menopause. You do not need this test for normal menopause at age 45 or older. Your age and your symptoms already give a clear answer. The level of this hormone moves around a lot at this stage of life. That makes a single test result hard to trust. If your doctor skips this test, it is not because your symptoms do not matter. It is because the result would not change your care.
