What this test is

These are blood or urine tests for certain chemicals. They include PCBs, once used in electrical equipment, plus solvents, plastics chemicals, and older pesticides. Lab tests today are very sensitive. Because of this, most people have a tiny, measurable amount of many of these chemicals in their body. This is true even with no unusual exposure. Finding a chemical does not mean it is harming you. Harm depends on how much, how toxic it is, and how long you were exposed. These tests work best when there is a known exposure to check, like a specific job. A specialist in occupational or environmental medicine should usually help. As a general check with no known exposure, these tests rarely give a clear answer.
