Celiac blood test (tTG-IgA)

Full name: Celiac serology (tTG-IgA + total IgA)

This is a standard, well-established test when it's relevant to you.

What this test is

This blood test checks for celiac disease. This is a real condition where gluten damages your gut. It looks for an antibody called tTG-IgA. It also checks a total IgA level, to make sure the main test will work for you. Celiac disease is often missed. It can show up as tiredness or low iron instead of gut symptoms. So this is often the right test to order. One important thing: you must still be eating gluten when the test is done. If you already cut out gluten, the result can look falsely normal. We may need to talk about how to test you accurately.
